Psalm 18: 4-6
The pangs of death surrounded me, and the floods of ungodliness made me afraid. The sorrows of Sheol surrounded me; The snares of death confronted me. In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried out to my God; He heard my voice from His temple, and my cry came before Him, even to His ears.
David is revealing how he thought he was going to die. Thoughts of Sheol, the place of the dead, were engulfing his thoughts. He thought death was imminent. At the worst time, he called to God and God heard him and delivered him from death.
This reminds me of that Dallas Holm song " At my worst he found me, At my worst he cried, At my worst he died...." Many times I think that my life is terrible and things are unfair. I need to look at the broader picture and know that all I need is God. That God will hear my cry and answer and save me from whatever befalls. I have several experiences where I thought I may die. I was not really afraid for me---I was worried about my family.
