What is the Way of Salvation in Christianity?

What does it mean to be a Christian? Some people think that being a Christian means doing good works, but this is not the definition of Christianity. Christians trust in Jesus as their Savior from sin and death. Christianity isn’t about the good works we do, but about the work Jesus already did on the cross.
Jesus is the Way, the Truth, the Life (John 14:6) and the only way to salvation. This message provides us comfort for this life and hope for eternity after we die.

The 5 Steps to Salvation: Understand Becoming a Christian
How do we get salvation? These steps guide you through God’s salvation plan for you as taught by Jesus and found in the Bible.
Step 1: See Jesus is the Way to Heaven
Day 1 – The way of salvation is Jesus. This verse from 1 John 5:11-12 sums up the entire month’s study, “And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.”
How do we have the Son? Jesus, God’s Son, lives in you when you accept Him as your Savior.
Step 2: Recognize You Have a Sin Problem
Days 2-10 – You have a problem. You have a major problem and that is that you are a sinner. You do things that are wrong every day, and in fact you were born into a sinful human condition.
Romans 3:10 says, “None is righteous, no, not one.” All of us have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Because God is a perfect, holy God, your sin separates you from Him.
Repentance is turning away from your sin and heading in a new direction. When you repent, you accept God’s forgiveness as a free gift.
Included in these readings is the story of man’s fall into sin in Genesis 3. Note the importance of Genesis 3:15, which is the first promise of a Savior in the Bible.
Reading about your sin can be depressing, but it’s important that you (and all of us) face up to this honest reality. Don’t lose heart. The good news is coming.
Step 3: Understand that Good Works Will Not Save You
Days 11-14 – Good works are not the answer. You know you have a problem. You have sins that need to be accounted for. By our human standards, it would seem that we somehow need to buy our way back to earning God’s good favor.
Yet the Bible tells us this is not the answer. God has given us salvation as a free gift, purely from God’s grace and not because of anything we have done to deserve it. This gives us assurance and hope.
Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
Step 4: Trust that Jesus is the Answer
Days 14-21 – Jesus is the answer. Jesus is the way to salvation for every person on earth because of His sacrifice on the cross. He took on the punishment that you deserved. There is no other way you can be saved.
Trusting in Jesus is not a good work that you do but rather a result of the Holy Spirit at work within you. Use prayer to talk with God and accept this incredible gift!
In 2 Corinthians 5:21 it says, “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” Jesus was perfect yet took on the burden of sin, death, and the devil. In his mercy, He gives you complete freedom and life with him in heaven someday.
Included in these readings are the story of Jesus’ death on the cross and his resurrection from the tomb.
Step 5: Accept God’s Work in Your Life
Days 22-30 – God continues His work in you. As you receive the gift of salvation, God continues to work in your life giving you peace, comfort, and hope for every day.
Because of the faith in you, you will see fruits of the spirit which are good works in your life. These works aren’t for salvation, but rather an outpouring of the Spirit with the Word of God at work within you.
